Gina’s friends and family are looking for your support to help her in her fight against Stage IV Colon Cancer.
At the age of 47, Gina has been diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer. The cancer has metastasized to her liver. Doctors at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) have thoroughly reviewed Gina’s case and have opted to start a combination of targeted radiation and chemotherapy beginning July 7th. The goal of the first leg of treatment is to try to reduce the size of the tumors in her colon and liver. Gina’s case is complex; Doctors said it’s imperative that the tumors be reduced before attempting surgery as the risks are too great. Treatment will commence Monday, July 6th. Just as Gina’s battle will be ongoing, so will the financial burden. Gina’s friends and family are now looking to raise money to pay for the seemingly endless list of medical bills she will incur over the coming months. Additionally, we are eager to help support her health regime as she enters a period of extensive treatments.
On Thursday, June 11th 2015, after finishing dinner, Gina had a sudden onset of pain under her right ribcage. She was taken to the emergency room and initially diagnosed as having a gallbladder attack. Additional tests that evening revealed multiple lesions on Gina’s liver. A liver biopsy was performed Friday morning, just hours later; this started the clock on the agonizing, 4-day waiting period. Results were to be shared the following Tuesday. The call came late Tuesday morning – Gina was diagnosed with cancer. The Doctor who delivered the news recommended Gina get her affairs in order. Gina wasted no time and had an appointment with CTCA Monday, June 22nd. CTCA performed several tests and confirmed colorectal cancer on Wednesday, June 24th. On Thursday, June 25th doctors met with us to discuss Gina’s treatment plan. CTCA’s team of doctors (more than 20 of them) opted for the most aggressive approach which is 5-7 weeks of targeted radiation and chemotherapy. Her treatment begins Monday, July 6th.
